Joshua 13-15; Psalm 56

When times get tough, how many of us just buckle down and work harder? How many of us, when backed in a corner, come out swinging and fighting? This is our natural, human response. David though takes a different approach.

But when I am afraid, I put my trust in you.  – Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. He makes this declaration that he depends on God for deliverance. My typical response is, “I’m good enough. I’m strong enough. I got this on my own.” And then I don’t. And when I don’t, it usually doesn’t end well.

David put his complete faith and trust in God. He knew that when he called on God to rescue that his enemies would flee.

On the day that I call to you for help, my enemies will retreat. This I know: God is on my side. – Psalm 56:9

For God to be on our side, we must be on His side. David fulfilled his vows to God, offered sacrifices of thanks and he walked in His presence of life-giving light. May we practice the same.
