Blogging the Bible- March 15

Numbers 18-21; Psalm 33

The Israelites are starting to make their way to their new home. As they get closer they begin to draw the ire of the surrounding nations. Surely they have heard the stories about how God delivered them from Egypt. How with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, God parted the Red Sea and they walked through on dry ground.

After seeing these signs and wonders, how could Moses have felt the need to hit the rock when God said just speak to it? God told him to strike the rock the first time at Rephidim on their way to Mount Sinai, but this time he was told to speak to the rock and enough water would come out.

How often do we not trust what God says? Be generous, but what if God doesn’t come through? I still have bills to pay. Serve others, but what if they reject me? The rejected Jesus too.

Every time the Israelites come up against an enemy, when they respond in obedience to what God says, they come away with a total victory. There were no losses, they took entire towns. Nothing was left except for them to occupy.

The same God who brought His people out of Egypt and into the Promised Land is on our side to help us as well. May we seek the Lord and listen to Him to guide our way.
