Blogging the Bible- March 4

Leviticus 25-27; Proverbs 17:15-28

Work for six, trust God for the seventh. Work for six, trust God for the seventh.

This is the foundation of the Sabbath. God knows that we need to rest. God rested on the seventh day after creating the universe. By doing this God established a pattern of work and rest. Work and worship. Work and trust.

We work for six days as if it all depends on us. We rest and worship on the seventh as if it all depends on God.

The pattern for the Israelites was to work for six days, rest on the seventh. Work for six years, rest on the seventh. They would work for six years and then let the land lay fallow for a year. They could eat the volunteer fruit, but no intentional planting and harvesting was to occur in the seventh year. They would do this for a pattern of seven sevens and in that 50th year they were to take year 49 and 50 off. Trust that God would provide.

God said if you trust Me in this way, I will provide. We get so focused on providing that we think, “We better do something just in case God doesn’t show up.”

Why do we think God won’t show up? That is why we must remember. The more we can remember how God has delivered for us; the more we can trust Him in other areas of our life.
