Blogging the Bible- February 18

Acts 13-15; Proverbs 11:16-31

The church is on the move. As they were seeking God, God called out to them to set apart men for a special work. I wonder if God wants to do a special work in us, through us, with us, but we don’t have ears to listen, to hear the call of God.

We’ve become creatures of comfort. What is comfortable for me? What best suits my needs? I heard a great line from Jonathan Howe on the Thom Rainer Leadership Podcast. I can’t remember exactly how it went but it spoke to the fact that are we Consumer Christians or Christians Consumed by the mission of God.

We don’t see Barnabas and Paul saying, “I like it here in Antioch. It’s safe. My friends are here.” They seem to jump up and say, “Where does God want us to go?” Why aren’t are churches growing? Because many of them are more concerned with safety and comfort than being consumed with God’s mission.

The godly are like trees that bear life-giving fruit, and those who save souls are wise. -Proverbs 11:30

So what kind of fruit is your life bearing? Life giving? Life taking? Is it infected by a parasite? Or disease?

If we want to be marked among the wise, our lives must bear fruit, life-giving fruit that saves the souls of men and women.
