Blogging the Bible- February 15

Acts 4-6; Proverbs 10:1-16

What would you do if the local government continued to try to stop your plans? Would you give up? Would you seek another form of influence? Would you continue to do what you have done and hope to not get caught?

Reading about the early church, they had the right blend of obedience to authority mixed with “I don’t care what you say”, throw in a little subterfuge and “Nanny- nanny- boo- boo” and I think you’ll have it. Really it can all be summed up in the words of Peter,

“Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than Him? We cannot stop telling about what we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:19-20)

If you have to choose between obeying God and obeying man, choose God. Obeying man may save your skin, but you could lose your soul. Obeying God may cost you your life, but the reward will last forever.

As we hear stories of believers being martyred for their faith, we tend to think it is something from history, but it still goes on today. While we don’t like to think about this, it doesn’t make it less true. In fact, we may yet face growing persecution in areas where we live.

Solomon wrote these words for us:

People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will slip and fall. – Proverbs 10:9

We need to continue to walk in steps of integrity. Without integrity our witness for God will not amount to much. It was the continued, authentic witness of the Disciples that made their lives so powerful.
