A Return to the Father

Have you ever heard someone say, “God could never love me because of what I have done”? For those who don’t know God this is a common misconception. What is worse is when this statement is uttered by someone who HAS known God.

Often we force on God our own thoughts and opinions. “Fool me once shame on you; fool me twice shame on me” DOES NOT appear in the Bible. Instead we find “How often should I forgive my brother, seven times?” “No seventy times seven.”

While it is true that our sin separates us from God. While it is true that sin impairs our relationship with Him. It is also true that God gives us much grace.

Today, if you find yourself far from Him. God is waiting for you to reconnect to Him. He is the Father standing on the porch waiting for His child to come home. The Father who will shame Himself and run to welcome home His child who shamed the family name. He is the Father who accepts us as we are, where we are, but loves us too much to let us remain as we are. He takes off our “pig sty” clothes and dresses us in His best. He gives us shoes for our bare feet. He puts His ring on our finger to show everyone that He has welcomed us home, and we are part of the family again.

Come on home. The Father is waiting.
