Family Mission Statement

Eskai and I got away for a weekend in November to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. Bed and Breakfast, quaint town and no kids gave us a great opportunity to reconnect and talk about what we wanted for our family. Our family is by no means in trouble, but both of us felt we needed some direction. Individually, we had done some reading that had challenged us about bringing purpose to our family.

As I said yesterday, I had read Patrick Lencioni’s book The 3 Big Questions for the Frantic Family. Eskai had just finished reading a book called Organized Simplicity: The Clutter-Free approach to Intentional Living by Tsh Oxenreider. The more we talked before our trip, the more we both realized we were coming to the same place from different sides. It is a beautiful thing when you and your spouse, teammate, colleague or partner come to the same place, even from different perspectives, to chart a plan for the future.

So while we were away, sitting a little restaurant in Cedarburg, WI, Eskai and I talked about what makes our family unique and what the goal is for the family God has given us. The problem for most of us is that we want it to look and sound perfect. When is anything in our life perfect? Rarely.

Here is my challenge to you: Put some thoughts on paper about what is important to you and your family. Put those thoughts into groups. As you do this you will see what is important to you and your family and begin to paint a picture of what makes your family unique.

As chaos begins to brew in your house, this statement, this picture is what you will come back to chart your way to the future God has for you.
